Plum Creek Commits to Plan Modifications
Plum Creek is pleased to announce its commitment to modify its Concept Plan for its land in the Moosehead Lake Region. Many of the modifications are clarifications or additions that provide additional guarantees or specifications in response to questions and comments from state and federal agencies to the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC).
The commitment to make the modifications was made after discussions with the agencies and was submitted as part of Plum Creek's rebuttal testimony to LURC on September 28, 2007.
The comments from agencies and others identified things that might go wrong under the Plan as written or that the Plan didn't guarantee explicitly enough. Now these guarantees will be written into the Plan so there can be no doubt about Plum Creek's obligation.
The changes include:
- Clarification of language in the Plan regarding management and specifics on conservation easements, recreation, access and development. Some examples include:
- Pledging land for future recreational needs.
- Providing road easements to ensure public access.
- Precluding additional development on the remaining undeveloped land within designated development areas in perpetuity by subjecting the remaining undeveloped land to a conservation easement.
- An advisory group to allow for changes applying best science and adaptive management concepts to guide forest management on the property protected by the easements.
- A funding mechanism and governing board to develop and implement a region-wide recreational management plan.
